Crown Post Op Instructions

Crown Prep Appointment

To prevent damage to your lip, cheeks or tongue after crown prep, be sure that the local anesthetic has completely worn off before eating. Stay away from drinking anything hot and no smoking to prevent getting a burn.  Some patients find it difficult to swallow while still numb, so please be careful.

After a tooth has been prepped for a crown it is normal to experience some hot and cold sensitivity. The teeth require some time to heal after removal of tooth structure and they can be sensitive. Your gums may also be sore for a few days.

To relieve discomfort try:

  • Warm salt water rinses (a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) three times a day will reduce pain and swelling.
  • A mild pain medication (2-3 Ibuprofen every 4 hours) should ease any discomfort.

Crown Seat Appointment

After a crown is cemented in place, it may take time to adjust to the feel. When the bite is altered or the position of the teeth is changed, it takes several days for the brain to recognize the new position of your teeth or their thickness as normal. After about one week, if you continue to feel any high spots or have problems with your bite, call our office to schedule a quick adjustment appointment.

Dear Dr. Dilger:

It all started with my initial phone call to Dr. Dilger's office. I felt so comfortable from the start and after I came in for my first visit it's been all about what I want and what Dr. Dilger and his staff recommends for me. All around, it's been the best dental experience I've ever had.

Going to the dentist used to be a nightmare experience for me. That's all changed when I came to Dr. Dilger. Dr. Dilger's office staff are so warm and welcoming. Visiting them is like going home. Dr. Dilger's calm and caring manner erased all my dental anxiety and for the first time in my life I found myself relaxed in a dental chair. Dr. Dilger and his staff really took the time to get to know me and my concerns. They talked with me about my fears and helped me address my anxiety. Now I visit the dentist and I'm not afraid. I can not express the difference Dr. Dilger has made in my dental life! Thanks so much Dr. D.

I love my new smile.  It was so easy too.  Nearly pain free.  I am considering my lower teeth at a later date.
